- You have a poorly fitted appliance

Unique combination - Absorb more moisture than any other seal and combat harmful enzymes, so will both prevent and protect against frequent or unexpected leaks. Letting you get on with your day
Mouldable - They are easier to mould and stretch than other seals, so you get a perfect fit every time.

A loose/liquid output is more likely to cause leaks and cause you to empty or change your bag more often than you would like.
Medications, a change in diet or an infection can contribute to a change in bowel function.
Some foods to try to help thicken your output and slow it down include, marshmallows, jelly beans or a ripe banana.

Frequent changes without using an adhesive remover spray can cause skin damage to the outer edge of the pouch. This is called skin stripping. This can cause the edge to lift which can reduce the wear time of the pouch.
Here are some tips:
- Try to be as gentle as possible when removing the adhesive baseplate and when cleaning the skin.
- Peel the baseplate off slowly, rather than ripping or tearing off.
- Using one hand to hold the skin tight can help prevent trauma to the skin.
- Adhesive removers may also help when removing the appliance.
Larger areas of sore or broken skin can be due to skin conditions such as psoriasis or dermatitis. This can prevent the pouch from sticking securely which can cause the pouch to leak contributing to further skin damage.
Try using a Large eakin Cohesive® Seal and or eakin protectTM barrier film.
The shape and size of your stoma changes within the first 6-8 weeks. Beyond this time other factors such as weight loss and weight gain can contribute to sore skin. These changes can lead to skin damage if the pouch is not cut to the most accurate size.
It is important to try and keep the skin around the stoma in good condition.
- Measure the stoma once per week during the first 8 weeks as the stoma will change shape and size.
- Ensuring that your pouch is cut to correct shape and size will help to prevent problems.
- Wash and dry your skin well, try not to use wet or baby wipes as they might prevent your pouch from sticking well.
