I have pain when removing my pouch

I have pain when removing my pouch

  • Try to be as gentle as possible when removing the adhesive baseplate and when cleaning the skin.
  • Peel the baseplate off slowly, rather than ripping or tearing off.
  • Using one hand to hold the skin tight can help prevent trauma to the skin.

See below for products to help with removing your pouch.

eakin releaseTM adhesive remover

eakin release offers rapid, pain-free removal of your pouch and other adhesive dressings.

I am making frequent pouch changes

I am making frequent pouch changes

Changing your stoma pouch too often will increase the risk of causing damage to your skin around the stoma.

How much is too much?

  • Closed pouch – more than 3 times a day.
  • Drainable pouch – more than once a day.
  • Urostomy pouch – more than alternate days.

If you are changing your pouch more frequently than this, you may need to consider changing to a different pouch.  We would recommend you contact your stoma nurse as you may need to switch to a 2-piece system.

The products below could help to extend your pouch weartime and reduce the number of changes you make.

Small eakin Cohesive® Seals

The Extra Protector Small eakin Cohesive® Seals provide maximum skin protection and maximum absorption capacity. They prevent leaks even for those with high fluid content and will help to increase pouch wear time.

eakin Cohesive SLIMS®

  • The skin surrounding the stoma should be clean and dry before applying a new pouch.
  • When cleaning the skin around the stoma, cover the stoma with a tissue to prevent the output contacting the skin.
  • Avoid using wet or baby wipes as they can interfere with adhesion.
  • Check that the hole in the stoma pouch is the right size.
  • If there is a lot of hair on the skin surrounding the stoma – shave it off – protect the stoma with a tissue to prevent causing damage to the stoma.
  • Only shave on alternate weeks to protect the skin.
