The post operative Ileal Conduit with stents insitu can be challenging in the application of an appliance and in achieving an acceptable wear time.The fluid nature of urine combined with the accumulation of mucous at the stomal opening and around the stents necessitates the use of a product to manage increased moisture levels whilst protecting the peristomal skin.Failure to manage moisture can result in:
The application of an Eakin Cohesive® Seal to clean and dry skin, under either a one or two piece urostomy appliance is an effective management strategy for the client with an ileal conduit.
Stents usually remain insitu for 7-10 days however pre operative radiotherapy increases this and they may be left for 2-3 weeks. Clients discharged from hospital with stents insitu will benefit from extra wear time resulting from the use of an Eakin Cohesive® Seal.
