Skin Care

Taking good care of your peri-stomal skin is extremely important. Your skin is the base, on which all of your stoma products will be placed, so it is vital that it is kept in good condition. However, in your everyday life as an ostomate, there are a number of factors that can compromise the health of your skin such as:

  • An ill-fitting appliance
  • A high output stoma
  • ‘Pancaking’ (for colostomates only)
  • Poorly sited stoma or retracted stoma
  • Change in body size
  • Change in output
  • Too frequent pouch changes
  • Bleeding
  • Lumps around your stoma
  • Skin allergies
In our ‘Skin Care’ booklet we have looked at each of the above issues and suggested tips for preventing or treating where possible. Eakin Cohesive® is recommended and proven to solve a number of problems, for instance it protects your skin against harmful output that may seep through the skin protector, it protects against leakage from a high output stoma, Cohesive® Seals prolong pouch weartime and heal sore or irritated skin.
